A typical dish from the Campania region (the name comes from the island of Capri) it’s the most popular summer salad and very much loved in Italy. Easy to prepare, the result greatly depends on the quality of the tomato and mozzarella. Small caprese salads, prepared with single cherry tomatoes stuffed with pieces of mozzarella, are a great appetizer.


  • 4 large round tomatoes, weighing about 600 grams: must be firm and ripe
  • 300 grams of mozzarella cheese
  • basil
  • oregano
  • extra virgin olive oil


  1. Cut the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese into slices and arrange them alternated on a platter
  2. You can also dice the tomato and mozzarella cheese, drain for a few minutes and then mix in a bowl
  3. Add half a teaspoon of dried pulverized oregano
  4. Season at the last moment, just before serving, with salt, oil and a tablespoon of chopped basil
  5. Serve at room temperature
